Richard Rorty is one of the important post modern thinkers and philosophers that have had special attention to otherness concept in pragmatism with social utility. The aim of this research is to explain of the foundation of otherness concept and its pragmatic utility in socio- political sphere. In this study, the main question is: principally, what is the relationship between otherness concept and socio-political order in Richard Rorty thought? The final finding of this study shows that: by crticism of meta- narratives and rejecting of general truth, Rorty believes to plural order by emphasis on otherness presence and its utility for socio-political order that has been partly done in western liberal democracies with main shortcomings and difficulties. By criticism of modernity thoughts and its meta narratives and rejection of Descartes’ Cogito on the impact of Emanuel Levinas, believes that attention to necessity of otherness, tolerance and responsibility are important than the concept of “self”. In the thought of Richard Rorty, otherness goes beyond of philosophical contexts and extend to cohesion and sympathy in ethics sphere and to neo-pragmatism democracy in the politics scope. تساهل و پذیرش دیگری، لازمۀ حیات و پویایی نظم سیاسی- اجتماعی مدرن است. «ریچارد رورتی» از مهم ترین اندیشمندان و فیلسوفان پست‌مدرن است که توجه خاصی به مفهوم دیگری از منظر فکری- اندیشه‌ای و نیز پرگماتیستی ناظر بر سودمندی اجتماعی داشته است. هدف از انجام این پژوهش، بررسی مبانی فکری و اندیشه‌ای مفهوم دیگری و کاربست یا سودمندی‌های عملی آن در در قلمرو سیاست و اجتماع است. در این پژوهش، پرسش اصلی آن است که اساساً چه ارتباط یا نسبتی بین مفهوم دیگری و نظم یا سامان اجتماعی و سیاسی در اندیشۀ رورتی هست؟ یافتۀ کلی این پژوهش آن است که رورتی با نقد روایت‌های کلان و نفی حقیقت عام و کلی انتزاعی، قائل به نظامی تکثرگراست که حضور دیگری هم لازمه و هم سودمند برای پویایی نظم سیاسی و اجتماعی مدرن است که در حال حاضر در لیبرال دموکراسی‌های کنونی، تاحدی تحقق یافته است، اما دارای کاستی‌های جدی نیز هستند. بر همین اساس وی با نقد اندیشه‌های مدرنیته و کلان روایت‌های این گفتمان و رد اصل کوژیتوی دکارتی تحت تأثیر امانوئل لویناس، توجه به ضرورت دیگری و روامداری و مسئولیت‌پذیری در قبال آن را مهم تر از توجه به مفهوم خود می‌پندارد. در نظام اندیشۀ ریچارد رورتی، مفهوم دیگری از زمینه‌های فلسفی خود فراتر رفته، در حوزۀ اخلاق به همبستگی و همدردی و در حوزۀ سیاست به دموکراسی نوپراگماتیسم گسترش می‌یابد. http://political.ihss.ac.ir/fa/Article/Download/12456
